Wrecks To Riches To UK Version

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

We had got used to the American version where they take old cars and get them back to almost hot rod standard at serious money and then sold at auction. But the UK version is completely different it relies on the fact that there are 450,000 cars written if by insurance companies each year that then find themselves in salvage auctions, either to be sold as car parts, crushed or as a car that can be repaired.

The point of the programme hosted by Vicki Butler Henderson and Dominic Littlewood is to prove you can take a salvage car, do it up and save thousand off the forecourt prices. In this example it is a Vauxhall VX220 that they will attempt to repair for the guest. To be truthful this is probably not the best example of repairing a salvage car. They paid too much for it thehe first place and then paid top dollar for the add on’s. The results was only a small saving off the forecourt price and to honest he could have gone to the car auctions and bought a the same car without and salvage D letter against the car at auction for trade price for the same as this repaired version.
In fact this was a lesson in what not to do, not that they made mistakes they just didn’t spend long enough looking for the right car and considering how much bodywork they did, they might as well have bout a car that was in a worse condition and saved a few grand in the process.

The guest did not buy the car, so off it went to be sold elsewhere.

Christmas Salvage Would Slow Down

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

You would think so, wouldn’t you? At a time when Wi Fits, mobile phones, laptops and iPods would rule the spending during the run up Christmas, you would have thought that those looking for salvage cars, would just wait until January or when the bills had been paid. But that has not been so. Credit crunch or none, the demand for salvage cars, still grows even during the build up Christmas.

It could be that the right cars have been released this month, or it could be that many buyers put the cars back on the road and make a profit. Or it could be that buying a salvage car is the only way to afford the type of car they are looking for. Whatever the reason, things did not slow down for the Christmas of 2008, so the expectations of 2009 are huge.

The only days the salvage auctions were closed were Christmas day through to Monday. As there would be no auctions on Sunday anyway, there were only 3 days lost. There were even salvage auctions still going on, during Christmas Eve. It is true that a repairable salvage project could also be a Christmas present; I know my son wanted an engine, to repair his second car.

If you are not yet in the repairable salvage market, you should at least to look to see what bargains there are available. It might not be for you, the time to work on these vehicles may be too extreme for you. If you rely on breakdown cover and garages even for the simplest repairs, then it clearly isn’t for you.

But of you like working on cars, then buying a repairable salvage project, might keep some of your money in your pocket.

We have been To the USA

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

It is a few weeks after the visit to set up a Auto salvage business in the States starting in Florida. The business will have the same name as in the UK, namely SalvageSpareFinder, but will have access to many of the salvage auction houses within Florida.

This is a huge market with prices much cheaper than here in the UK for the equivalent cars, even after you have taken into account the shipping and Vat costs of getting the salvage vehicle back home. We see a huge demand from eastern European countries who are crying out for cars. This will be a great way of buying, especially if eth Euro stays high.

Of course we will be selling Auto Salvage to the locals also to mirror the same as back here in the USA.  Although we still have to see what kind of customers the Yanks are. Will they appreciate what will be doing, or will they complain and expect prefect cars for salvage prices, we will have to wait and see.

It has been a huge project and the business is no set up, although the website does have a bit of optimisation and visitors to go. The auto salvage market is huge, especially for the repairable salvage cars that are to be put back on the road. So watch out for the official start of the business, when the cars are added to the site and can be found by me and you.

SalvageCarFinder Is Going Global

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

The rest of the world better watch out because SalavgeCarFinder has big plans to go worldwide, that may be able to offer salvage cars from country to country.  The first project will be the biggest as we take on the Auto Salvage market in the USA with our new site AutoSalvageFinder.  If you think the salvage market is big in the UK, you need to see the USA market, it is just huge.

There are 50 States out there that have their own system for dealing with insurance write offs, that are auctioned off in a similar way to the UK, but in higher volumes and up to now we have not seen a one stop shop for all these salvage auctions.

The new salvage site will probably start off in the State Florida and then expand throughout, with every American Make and model listed on the site, there will be damaged repairable cars, but also a chance of vehicles that cannot go back on the road in the USA, but must be sold for export, this could be a new whole market and opportunity for those who do believe then can repair these cars. Especially when the currency exchange rate is on your side, making it cheaper to repair outside of the USA, than across the pond.

So if you are looking for American model salvage auction, watch this space.

Recession Beating Car Buying

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

We are all feeling the pinch at the moment and not sure about taking out finance or to consider buying big purchases. New car sales were down 20% this last new registration, compared to last year. But one area we are not seeing a downturn in, is the interest in insurance write offs and damage repairable cars.

In fact there is an argument that the recession id fuelling the demand for car salvage because of the savings that can be had from buying and repairing these cars. The internet has made the , process much easier than ever before, with several photographs showing the damage of these vehicles, so you can cost the value of repairing the car and getting it back on the road.

Insurance companies need to clear these cars quickly to get their cash flow back to cover other insurance write off claims, so there are no showroom staff cleaning or repairing anything on these cars, to make them appear as of they are worth more. You see these insurance write offs normally as they came in the yard, good and bad. The aim is to get the cars back out of the yard as quickly as possible. The aim of SalvageCarFinder is to put everyone in touch with these cars and provide a platform to buy these damaged repairable vehicles.
